Plans are being drawn up for the future of the Tourist Information Centre in Bognor Regis, and it would appear without consultation with the Town Council or even ward councillors! As you will all be aware the Tourist Office only has just over two weeks till it closes it's doors as part of Arun District Councils cut backs, though they did say that such cuts would NOT effect front line services!!!!! I have just been informed form a reliable source that the majority of the unit is going to be taken over by the Bognor Regis Observer and the little that is left is going to be converted into a walk-in UN-MANED leaflet stand 'kind of' room that will not have the benefit of a person to give personal advice or guidance. Arun said that the replacement (what ever it was) to the tourist information service would not just be leaflet stands in the corner of a shop or office, and that real people would be on hand to give advice! Well it would appear (though still to be confirmed) that Arun District Council have yet again gone back on their word and the town will suffer again because of it! We already have leaflet stands in our cafes, hotels and even Morrisons, so how does Arun think that having more of them in more racks replaces what is to Bognor Regis a very valuable front line service? ..
