If you weren't among the 5,807 people who added their names to the petition for two-hour Free Parking in Bognor Regis Town centre car parks, don't worry!  There is still a great opportunity for all who care about Bognor Regis to pledge support for the petition during the coming local election.

And even if you did sign the petition, your pledge is still needed.  Bognor Regis Civic Society have asked all election candidates to declare that they support the petition on their election leaflets.  And you are being asked to pledge that you will only consider candidates who do that.

How do you do this? Simply go to CiViC's special webpage, click on The Free Parking Pledge and you'll see it all explained.  You will also see how many members of the public have pledged so far, and in due course there will be a list of the election candidates showing whether they support the petition or not - there's only two there at the moment, but the election hasn't got going yet.

Good eh?  Now everybody will know which of their local election candidates supports free two-hour parking, and all the candidates will know if they can afford to risk ignoring the issue!  And if you're unsure of the details of the Free Parking proposals, just click on Free Parking and you'll go straight to Civic's page with lots of information.  Tell all your friends!

The Free Parking petition has now been officially presented to Arun District Council and will now go through a procedure which means that it eventually comes before the Regeneration Sub-Committee for them to make a recommendation to the full Council. But a problem will be that Arun has just decided to combine the Littlehampton and Bognor Regis regeneration sub-committees, which will mean that it will now be voted on by Littlehampton Councillors as well as Bognor Regis ones. And are they likely to want to encourage free parking in Bognor Regis which might affect the competitiveness of their own town? I can see quite a few private agendas getting in the way of a sensible decision here...
