Beach Hut Fire - Marine Drive West

The latest in a string of Beach Hut Fires in and around the Bognor area has been reported in this morning's Bognor Regis Observer. Fire crews were called to the area opposite the putting green in Marine Drive West in the early hours of Monday night following eight fires reported by owners in January, despite an increase in police patrols to the area. The huts have been located here since Victorian times with around 130 dotted between the popular cafe and fishing huts that line the sea front.
Alison Priestley, beach hut community representative is reported as saying "It's very worrying people thinking their huts are going to be set on fire. That part of the beach has a lovely family atmosphere - it's a friendly place". Sussex police have asked any suspicious activity in the area to be reported on 0845 6070999.

Not more cameras please !!! Although your comment about lighting that area for runners and dog walkers is a good one and this might deter vandals as well

ReportCCTV maybe, could be fairly innocuous like some of the cameras in town. Perhaps some eco-powered lighting for that area, would be nice for runners and dog walkers too in the winter.

ReportHow are people supposed to guard against this sort of thing ? What we need is a bit of creative thinking here rather than scaring our tourists and hut owners with this kind of story. Is there a way of protecting our huts against fire or vandalism that doesn't make them no go areas ringed with razor wire.
