Christmas shoppers in Bognor Regis are being given an early present – free parking at the council-run Fitzleet Car Park on Saturdays.

Arun District Council will waive parking fees at the multi-storey, adjacent to Queensway in the town, all day on Saturdays during the festive season.

The gesture is being made by Arun District Council to encourage shoppers to stay local and to support and promote Bognor Regis businesses. It repeats the same support that Arun has provided over the last five years. Parking will be free on Saturday, December 11 and 18, and again on January 1, 2011, for residents hitting the January sales.

Councillor Paul Wotherspoon, Cabinet Member for the Environment, said: “We are delighted to give shoppers free parking on what are the three busiest shopping days of the year. In the current financial climate, most people have a tight budget when it comes to Christmas shopping and this will ease the pressure on their purse strings. “It will also boost local businesses as shoppers are more likely to stay local and may feel they have that little bit of extra cash to spend on shopping now that we’ve created free parking. "

Lets hope we can get FREE PARKING for Bognor all year round like they do in Littlehampton. The money from Butlin's deal or Sainsbury's half a million could be put to really good use here......COME ON ARUN !!!!
