Arun residents with an iPhone will now be able to check air pollution levels at the touch of a screen with a new app.
The app features Maps, Stats, My Sites and Notifications which will provide access to real-time air quality information on the go for the first time.
The airAlert service is designed to warn people with respiratory health
problems such as asthma and lung disease who may be affected by air
pollution.
The app has been launched by the Sussex Air Quality Partnership (SAQP), in association with the Environmental Research Group at King’s College, London, and air pollution levels are recorded at monitoring sites across the whole of Sussex.
Councillor Mrs Gillian Brown, Leader of Arun District Council, said: “It’s great to see that residents of Arun with respiratory problems can now get the free airAlert service on their iPhones, as well as by text or email. “This means that even if they are out and about, they can have an early warning that high air pollution is likely to occur which may help them decide what to do, where to go, and what medication to take with them.
“People who do not have these kind of health problems need not be
concerned as the air quality in our district is generally very good.”
A spokesperson for the SAQP said: “The Sussex Air iPhone App and the.Sussex Air Alert service will provide crucial resources for Sussex residents who are concerned about, or interested in, their local air quality. We hope this new application will allow even more people to access and keep on top of Sussex’s air quality.
“People commuting from Sussex to London can also access the London Air monitoring network so our users can check current air quality from Brent to Brighton.” The app is available as a free download from the iTunes App store.
